I had a 64 slice CT scan of my heart on Thursday. It took 2 1/2 hours to prep for a 15 second procedure! But the nurse said they got good pictures. My doctor will have the results by the time I see him next Thursday.
I had to take beta blockers to lower my blood pressure. Then they had me lay down on the table for the scan. They started an IV and did a few things to get set up. They gave a nitrogliceryn (sp?) to open up the chambers of my heart 2 minutes before the scan. (It felt kind of tingly--like I had thumb tacks under my tongue!) Then they injected the dye. I had all the things they warned me about. I had a huge hot flash on my whole body, and then I felt like I wet the bed (I didn't!) When the scan was over, my head really hurt. The nurse said some people get a Nitro headache. She sent me out for caffiene. I was starving, so I got food too.
Yesterday, a friend who worked as a cardiac tech told me that she had a bunch of tests for heart pain. Turns out her thyroid is out of whack. The first test came back normal. She told me what to ask for (T4-Free). She has had no chest pains since they started treating her thyroid.

Hmmm, sounds like an unpleasant scan. Hope the food helped afterward.
