I'm really more of a night owl. I don't roll out of bed fresh and ready to go. But if it's just me I have to get going, I do alright. The reason I hate mornings is because this year I have two sleepyheads who don't "do mornings". And I hate fighting with them.
Before school started this fall, I had plans for a peaceful morning. I would get up early for a time of prayer and Bible study, followed by a morning workout on the Wii. After calling the kids (once!) they would get up and we would have breakfast together. We would read a chapter from the Bible and practice our memory verses. I would pray blessings over my children before I sent them out into the cruel world. And then I'd head off to work feeling revived and encouraged.
In reality, our monrings have been a bit, shall we say, different? Instead, I have to call them several times. (Often waking up Munchie who doesn't go to school until 11:30.) Many mornings I have to request backup (aka Daddy!). And they need constant reminders: get dressed; get your shoes on; take your meds; brush your teeth; let me brush your hair. (Yes, Crunchy.....I do need to brush your long beautiful hair EVERY day.) By the time we get to the car, I'm frazzled. I've lost my cool at least once. They are frazzled. And I have a 3 minute drive to try to get everyone ready to face the world. Then I have to go to work.
So many mornings, I leave their school in tears. This is not how I want our mornings to start. Rising early is hard when I don't get to sleep very early. And what is the Wii? Last time I got on my Wii Fit (about 3 weeks ago) it said, "It's been 27 days since you were here last".)
I need to reclaim my mornings.
Psalm 5:2-3 (NIV)
2 Listen to my cry for help,
my King and my God,
for to you I pray.
3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation.
Lamentations 3:22-24 (NIV)
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."
Psalm 59:16 (NIV)
But I will sing of your strength,
in the morning I will sing of your love;
for you are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.

Ugh! Your mornings sound like our's! So many times I'm on my way home from dropping M off at school thinking "this is not how I want our mornings to go, now all day she'll remember how mommy was so frazzled and grumpy!"
Hoping we can both reclaim our mornings.
Hugs to you and your crew!
